Smart Chips

Printer manufacturers have discovered that their customers have found alternative printer ink cartridge at affordable prices and they are not impressed.  A new technique has been devised to counter the use of generic printer inks, which involves printer ink cartridge part called Smart Chips.  These are incorporated into the design of the printer ink cartridge.  Smart Chips work in such a way that they recognize all cartridge inks that are placed into the printer.  In addition, Smart Chips can do the following:

  • Compatibility of Cartridge ink and Printer Machine – Manufacturers of branded printers have found a way of recognizing other printer ink cartridges by using Smart Chips to detect this.  Newer printers will reject a “non-genuine” ink and give a warning that should the cartridge be used, it will damage the printer or the machine may not work.  This is a smart move to protect their products, but customers should not panic at this.  Generic cartridge inks will not damage the printer, and so one can go ahead and continue using the ink, despite the warning.
  • Track the cartridge ink level – Some Smart Chips are able to keep track of the ink usage and note the level of ink remaining in the cartridge.  Once the printer ink cartridge is empty, it will stop functioning even if more ink is added.  The best way to work around this is to monitor ink levels and refill before the cartridge runs dry.
  • Monitor the printing work – Manufacturers of branded printer ink cartridges have also found a way of monitoring the length of cartridge life.  With Smart Chips, the amount of printing work is also monitored as well as the length of time the cartridge has been installed.  With this, one can estimate the period of time before the ink runs out.  Smart Chips are able to dictate this period and may send out a warning saying the cartridge is empty.  Once this happens, the printer ink cartridge will not work, even if it had been refilled with ink.  However, there are new counter innovations that work to outsmart the Smart Chips.  Chip resetters are used to counter the Smart Chips signals and registers that the cartridge as full.  The cartridge can be reused several times with this.

Manufacturers of branded printer machines are trying to find ways to counter the sale of generic printer ink cartridges which are much more affordable than theirs.  Their strategy is to counter products that are not their original production.  While this may be a beneficial strategy to them, they should think of others that directly affect their customers.  They invest a lot of resources to ensure innovations like the Smart Chip are done, yet they cannot manufacture affordable quality products.  An easier option would be to place their products at a reasonable price for affordability.   With daily business needs, there are bound to be many ways to solve the problems the business demands.  With Smart Chips came Chip re-setters which have helped those who choose to buy affordable printer ink cartridges.
